You may be correct. I have always taken for granted that a tag light was required.

 

I believe that there is a Statute in every state that requires the rear license plate to illuminated.
I know that it is required in California, Nevada, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas.
Just to have the reflective Plate is not enough.

 

Changed mine out on 09 Electraglide Classic. Did quick detach kit and had to use cable ties on crome trim on saddle bag in a pinch. Had people say they liked it---go figure.

Kuryakin (or however you spell it) has a kit that removes the rear fender tip and add's a recurved holder with three long LED's and a new tag light.

I ran across this thread and wanted to share an item I have been selling on ebay. Take a look at this and let me know if it's something you might want. I'll cut some $ off for Forum members. I can also explain the lighting needed. By the way, the Street Glide tail light does not have a clear section on bottom. It lights the plate from the turn signal bar.
