Default Do I need a Fuel Management system if just replacing OEM header?

I am strongly leaning towards having the dealer install V&H Dresser Duals on my soon to be delivered Road King. I am probably going to leave the stock mufflers on or maybe have the SE slip ons installed.

My main goal here is heat reduction, not any performance or volume gains. I understand there will be a volume gain by virtue of the cat being gone.

So if I go with just the header pipe replacement is a fuel management system necessary?

might not be necessary but if you really want heat reduction you'll want to richen things up a little. I have a cat equiped bike and it felt a lot cooler after doing stage 1 with an non epa map......

It's not necessary but the bike will run much better with one.Almost a no brainer to install one, just my 2 cents.

IMO, you should do the entire stage 1 upgrade.

AC, Pipes, and tune.

I'm installing the following on my 2011. All the parts are on the bench waiting for bad weather so I can lay up the bike for a few weeks.

V&H true duals
V&H monster rounds
Arlen Ness Big Sucker
TTS Mastertune

This will reduce heat in 2 ways.
1. Heat from the cat
2. Heat from running lean

The bonus will be that the bike will run MUCH better and stronger. The last benefit will be great sound.

All for only $1800!!!! Ouch!

I would be suprised if the dealer will install a non converter head pipe. EPA will make big trouble for a car dealer that removes a converter?

I think it is only an issue maybe for states that do an emission test on motorcycles? I know NH is not one of those states.

Has anyone else had a dealer swap out a header pipe for them?

Doc Ultra....is the only thing you swapped out was the header pipe? No Fuel pak etc?

If you're going to use the "dresser duals" you will need to have two of the same mufflers like the SE mufflers.
If you go with the "power duals" you could get away with using the stock mufflers alone.
The stock setup more or less uses the right hand muffler for flow and the left muffler for resonant sound.
The dresser duals would then make the cylinders run mismatched with stock mufflers , but ok with matched flow type mufflers.
If this is the only mod , you should be ok , but a complete stage 1 setup will reduce heat better and make more power because of the richer overall mixture.
