I have a question that is probably to subjective to answer definitively, but I have a friend who is an independent Harley shop owner and builds some nice engines. He believes that 103" should be the limit on the stock non-welded crank assembly. He has seen a few now that twisted at 107". What is the general consensus on the limit for the stock crank? I would like to go with the 107" kit on my 09 96" FLHTC. Same cost, near as I can tell, to go up to 103" or 107". I would hate to leave performance on the table that I could have had for "free." I have Stage 1 mods now and will be installing Woods 222 or 555 cams soon. I'm just looking for great passing power when overtaking long lines of lemmings who don't have the ********* to pass (until after they see me pass!).

I may be wrong but I think it's the same crank that's in the 110" CVO models.

I suspect that the difference of 4 cubes is not the deciding factor.
How radical the build goes in pursuit of big numbers and riding style / rpms probably plays a bigger part

Thanks for the replies. I would love to know for sure if the 110" CVO is un-welded. I agree with the thoughts about what else went into the 107"s that twisted and how hard they were ridden. Knowing my friend and his customers, they may have had the sh.. run out of them!
I do not intend to "beat on it", but I would love a better kick in the a.. when I need to pass. I swear that my old FXSTS 80" EVO would outrun this thing in a drag race. I know there is a big weight difference, but damn...……...

I'm not sure if the 120 crate engines have a welded crank. They might have. I know there is something missing about them that most large engines have. I looked up the part number for a 2015 CVO model and a 2009 96" and they came up the same. The 2009 was a superseded part number so there might be a difference but I don't believe it's welding on the crank.

Harley engines come with a press fit crank... If you have a welded crank, it's been done aftermarket....

The higher the torque output the engine build makes, the higher the chance of the crank scissoring... however people have scissored OEM cranks.. I believe the biggest factor in the crank scissoring, other than a defect, is the nut behind the wheel....aka: how the bike is ridden....

FWIW... they increased the size of the crank pin on the M8s to increase the load capacity.... but still use the press fit crank

I know 107 sounds better than 103 but I just don't see the gain vs. money spent my 103 makes 107hp 110torque. In my most humble opinion is a very nice set up for the average rider like me that wants a little extra power from time to time but isn't at the local drag strip every week trying to set a new land speed record. I've contemplated going to a 110 set up but i don't think I'd really notice much difference. I actually went to aggressive on the cams in hindsight I wish i would have given up some H.P. and gained some torque around 2600rpm. the cams i got in right now don't come on untill around 3,000 rpm. let's just be honest with ourselves not many people ride an ULTRA at an average rpm of 4,000 lol just saying.

Everyone I know that plays with hot rods, two or four wheels, knows the saying, "speed costs money, the faster you want, the more money it costs". I also know I'm riding a 900 lb ULTRA. I love that fact that now I can twist the throttle and pass and move through traffic with ease even when two up riding. I am extremely happy with my set up from Fuel Moto, I did go from a 103 to a 110. I also consider myself an average rider that wanted a little more power. I use my ULTRA to commute daily as well as 5000 mile road trips. It gives me a smile every time I start her up. I also smile when I can keep pace with my friend on his sport F6B Goldwing. I also rib him that he has no cruise control and only a 5 speed, but that's off topic. I do ride my ULTRA at an average rpm of 4,000, just saying...
