While I'm not sure you have to change fluids if you are not at your mileage mark, if you do want to change I would suggest doing so before storing for the winter. For the simple reason you'll have less corosive elements in the oil. I've always done my boat this way. I don't have to winterize my bike though.

I don't winterize as I'm usually able to get out at least once a month. But.....in between rides over the winter I keep it on the battery tender and covered with two sheets over it.

If your last change was aug of 09 I would change the fluids now Just because its been over a yr, at least the engine oil.
