Default Winter storage - hoist

I recently read in another forum (blasphemy I know) that HD
does NOT recommend leaving bikes up on a hoist for extended periods
because of the strain it puts on the front suspension.

I've never heard of this and haven't had trouble in the past (that I know of)

Anybody heard of this ? If I'd read it here I would think it was true but????

will you be storing it for years or only a few months? If it's just a few months I think you're safe to park it whatever way makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I don't use my lift for winter storage. Subjecting the frame to unsprung weight long term just never seemed like a good idea.

My bikes have all been stored for about 6.5 months for our long winters and I've never put them up on a jack or placed them with the weight off of the wheels and suspension and I have never had any issues. No flat spots in the tires, nothing. I place my bike on a thick very heavy rubber mat called a cow stancion mat that I purchased at Agway, I check to make sure the tires are properly inflated, top off the gas tank and add some stabil, change all fluids and throw a flannel bed sheet over her. Comes out of hibernation perfect every time.

Stored inside the trailer with Stabil and battery tender. Also use dessicant to collect moisture and also cover with a flannel sheet.
