will not start
07 SG 894 miles rode yesterday about 40 miles --- put the bike in the garage---this afternoon will not start. call the service dept let him listen to it on my cell.
He thinks it's a problem with the charging system---tells me to bump start it---and bring it in---can't bump start I don't live on hill---got someone to give me a jump --- it's at the dealer now.
Has anyone else experienced this???
thanks,
Lyn

Be carefull - doubt it was the battery as the root cause. More like the battery went bad after not getting charged, etc. Would guess you still have the orginal problem - most likely something imtermittent - like the loose gound. I would check all the "big" cable connections near the battery / frame / stator / regulator.

Uh, did the dealer really check out the battery? Which means he should've re-charged it fully (which will take at least overnight) on a low amp charger? Then do a load test? Or did they just swap a new battery into it? Batteries do go bad, but your's is too new in my opinion for that to happen. I'll get about two years outta a battery. When that time approaches, I head off to the store and get a new one. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a Genuine HD battery, Drag Specialty, Sears DieHard, Delco, etc. They all are living on borrowed time-even when hooked to my 'float' charger.
I don't know if The MoCo redesigned the 'plug' that the voltage regulator uses to connect with the stator, but if it's still the piece of crap rubber thing similar to what they used in 93 on my ElectraGlide: It is prone to loosening up. When that happens you get an intermediate connection with the bikes 'alternator' and you loose charge. Lots and lots of wierd things start to happen when the battery begins to run low on juice. I imagine with a newer, fuel injection model, some more stuff goes haywire when the batter voltage drops below a certain point. I've had mine loosen up too many times (until I-not a dealer-not an independent-fixed it) causing the bike to die. One time was a result of a rough ride around Lake Okeechobee, another time from just after washing the bike (and I forgot to check it). Another couple of times it happened with brand new batteries.
I'm not real trusting of anyone that works on my bike...Just an unfortunate number of poor experiences at dealers and independents. So I re-check the entire bike-including all wiring connections-anytime I am forced to have someone else work on it. Perhaps something 'loosened' up during your 500 mile check?
