Default Acrylic or polycarbonate?

Which material is your windshield made out of? Acrylic (plexiglass) or Polycarbonate ( Lexan). Have you looked into the way these two materials handle impact? Check out some of the videos on youtube on windshields made out of these two materials, pretty interesting .

my H-D Lexan windshield took an apple sized rock at 65 mph that would have broken my face.

just a little mark to remind me to stay the heck away from all trucks! ( he passed me, I shoulda hammered on ahead)

****** beware of sales videos on the internets---- you really need to consider the source of 'information" you find or are referred to...is it a sales pitch? is a test a test? and where is the shamwow Guy?

I was a little surprised how acrylics takes impact. One you are able to fix scratches and one not too good.

saw a video on here awhile back, they were using a air cannon to launch stuff at windsheild , after seeing that poly is the only shield to consider, the acrylics cracked into large sharp pieces ,poly took the hits and never broke.

Default HD windshields

At least HD uses Lexan. Why would some top windshield makers use the Acrylic. I know that planes use very thick Acrylic windshields and some of the acrylic shields are thicker than the Lexans that they sell for motorcycles. After researching these two materials for windshields you might not want to ride behind one of them.

Default plexiglass vs acrylic

Acrylic is harder than plexiglass but is more brittle and does not do shock well as evidenced by the video. It's like glass or hardened metal for that matter. They are both hard as can be against pressure but induce shock into the equasion and they both break. Thats where tempering comes in. Plexiglass stands up to shock very well.

Wonder if the LRS shields will hold up. I would think there are a lot of guys on here running them. Maybe they should set some shields up and throw **** at them.
