Default BAL & Kuryakyn?

I have a BAL3-S (lay-down style with smoked lens). Picked up a Kuryakyn 4859 run-turn-brake controller at a dealership yesterday. Installed it, but encountered problems.

I could not get the turn signals to operate as brake lights. They function as running lights OR turn signals, but do not react to the application of the brakes.

Flipping the dip switch for brake flash has no effect.

Flipping the other dip switch yields different results: on the stock setting everything operates just as if the controller wasn't even there; flipped to Panacea tail lights makes the turn signals operate as running lights, but not brake lights or turn signals.

Installing the load equalizer on either pigtail has no effect.

Haven't tried reinstalling the stock taillight. Will try that next.

Not at all what I expected. May have to return the Kury.

Wondering if there may be an incompatibility between the R-T-B controller and the BAL?
Anyone else running this combo? Everything working?

Sounds like a bad Kury part to me. Gotta love those BAL's!

I'm not certain...just guessing here. I just received the BAL-3, but have the HD running light conversion kit on order. These will make the rear tail lights stay on as running lights, but they will not, to my knowledge, allow them to act as brake lights. Perhaps the Kury's are the same. Have I missed the target here?

Default BAL+HD signal to running light conversion

I have the BAL tail light with the Harley signal light to running light kit installed and it all works perfect. I say your Kury controller is defective. The Harley converter is about fifty bucks, why not go Harley?

I cannot say enough good things about the BrightAss lights. Best LED product on the market. It makes the rest look cheap or gimmicky. My advice, whatever you do, don't give that up.

Do you find with the red signals that they get washed out when using the BAL?
May I ask where you guys purchased your BAL lights from......

Thanks

I asked this same question in another thread without any responses. How about it? Do the directional signals get washed out because the BAL is so much brighter?

Ride safe,

Bob.

The kit I bought is a Run-Turn-Brake kit, and is supposed to make the rear turn signals function as running lights, turn signals and brake lights.
This is different than a Run-Turn kit.

Nope... not gonna part with the BAL, that's for sure.
In retrospect all I really need is a Run-Turn controller. I'd just like to have the rear turn signals function as running lights to add more visibility, especially in inclement weather.

I bought mine at a local H-D dealer (quite a few carry the BAL). If one near you doesn't, just go to the source: http://www.brightasslights.com/site/ Same price.

Sure, the BAL is much brighter. But, you are not necessarily on the brakes every time the signals are flashing. And when you are, the BAL is still brighter, but the turn signals are flashing on and off (which adds to their visibility).
I have my BAL set to flash twice and then light steadily upon application of the brakes. The signals are still visible throughout.
