Default running lights ? help!

Hey guys, first let me say that I love this forum, I've had my sportster now for about 2 months and have learned alot from this forum.
My question is, tonight was my first time riding at night and I realized that I have no running lights in the rear! I noticed that my front turn signals have running lights on them so I am assuming that my rear turn signals should have the same and that its not supposed to be the tail light that has the running light.
I do have a after market tail light (upgraded to LED) and I also have the smoked lenses and new bulbs from HD. My bike is a '08 883
Thanks for all the help.

The rear turns do not act as running lights... just the taillight. You can add aftermarket electrical module to make them into running lights if you want.

It's working correctly.

That's normal. The rear is tail light running only, unless you add the run/brake/turn module which turns all 3 rear lights into running and brake lights. About $55 from the dealer.

Thanks for everyones input, I found the module on HD part # 69463-06, so I guess that my new tail light does not have a running light built in. Is this normal for aftermarket lights? seems like that is a function that is really necessary. Also will I be OK running just the turn signals as running lights?
Thanks
David

What I get you are saying is that you have NO running lights before the module? That is NOT standard. Your brake / tail light should function as both.

Edit - I missed the LED part - you may need a load equalizer - as for the HD module, it takes the stock 1156 (single filaments) and makes the rear turns both running lights, brake lights, and turn signals.

Depends. On a standard bulb there are single filament bulbs and dual filament bulbs. Duals have a dim and bright, like your front turn signals. Singles are just on (bright) or off.The tail light should have been like a dual filament. I would check with whoever you got the LSD set-up from. It should be on anytime the key is on as a dim light. Most if not all states (NC included) require you to have a red running light in the rear.

This is the tail light I have, it is only on when the brakes are applied. So if I had the turn signal/running light module and replaced the lenses with red lenses I will be O.K? I would rather change the turn signals over the tail light.

Thanks David

The ad doesn't specifically say that the unit provides tail-light but it does say that 100% of the LED's are illuminated for braking leading me to believe it does both. Maybe you got a defective unit? I would give them a call tomorrow.
