Ditto! That's what I did and it works great. I think it cost me $12 for a universal antenna from which I scavenged the cable and adapter to mount the stock whip to.

Back when I still had the '09 Street Glide, I added HD's hidden Boom antenna...wasn't enough. Then I bought an antenna booster, Y-cable & small auto whip & added to Boom set-up. Needless to day, my reception woes went away. IMO, just think of your bike as a vehicle & any "Auto" antenna set-up should work...just need to pick an antenna that fits inside the fairing...voila!
