Has anybody tried the replacement tires for the 09 and 2010 UC ? The tires I'am talking about are the Dunlop American Elite HD replacement front tire.
I have found them on the web for $121.99. The best deal I have found for the Dunlop D408F 130/8oB17 Slim white stripe -17" is around $163.76 free shipping. Just woundering how they hold up for wear milage wise? I hate to spend $163.00 when I can spend $122.00 plus I can get them from a non HD shop. Thanks.
The American Elite is a pretty new tire on the market, others like the venom and me880 have been around and tested over time by many people. So far the American Elite's have gotten a good report by almost everyone (you'll never get 100%). I think by far the consensus is any of the three tires mentioned here are better than the stock tires. Although some do swear by the stock tires. Save the money and give the American Elite a try.
I have set that I got from jake wilson, very cheap, have them mounted on extra set of wheels, but havent gotten around to installing them on my bike yet, hope to get the new cams and Rev performance EMS installed this weekend, and then the tires and wheels next weekend. They are a very good looking tire, no white wall, but not sure how good they will be. I used E-3 on all the goldwings I have had and had great results with them, so these should be just as good.
I was about to get the ( rear) Elite from a local indy tire shop- his price was about $165 mounted and balanced--but the supplier was backordered.
About the same time I was in at a dealer for warranty service ( Dunlop 407/ 408 replacement). I asked the service writer what price they would give me on the rear- he came in at $178 OTD.
So that's what I did- I think they charged 50% on the list price of the rear tire...maybe $140?
so shop around- sometimes shops came suddenly become very competitive in pricing.
I went to a yamaha dealer ( thats right yamaha ) to check on a price for a rear wheel and the price was not bad but the best part is it was free install, unfortuneatley he called back and said it was an extra week before he could get it so ended up on ebay and installing myself.
Check the local metric dealers you may get a better deal than you thought possible.
I had the E3's mounted last summer and really like them.
Their a lot softer then the stock Dulops but not as soft as an Avon or Metz.
So they won't wear as quickly as the Metz.
I've got about 5k on them and they still look great.
I didn't get much better then that on the ME880's before I had to replace them.
They have an aggressive thread pattern and rounder design profile. I think they ride great and stick to the road really well. I'd buy them again.
