I recently did some work with a National Tyre fitting company here in the UK and asked the relevance of using Nitrogen.

1. As Nitrogen molecules are larger than Oxygen, they do not leak out as naturally from the tyre - In other words they (the tyres) remain inflated and at correct pressure longer. This answered my query regarding how to check and inflate at home, the answer is that inflation top us should be required less frequently, and usually the tyre fitting service include free top ups (at least the company I was working with).

2. The Nitrogen works with a wider temperature range, so the tyre pressure fluctuates less across differing climatic conditions, it's also why Nitrogen is used in race tyres to ensure a fixed pressure.

Correct pressure ensure best performance, reduces low pressure tyre wear and can improve fuel economy.

It all seems to make sense, just need to get round to having them filled.

Me too, and after the littler molecules leak out it end up closer to 100%.

Do you do anything special to remove the air that is inside the tire before you pressurize it?

My SUV has it from Costco tire shop no charge, can't feel any different in driving but pressure doesn't seem to rise as high when tires are warm as use to. Lot of hype about it on the internet though.

Im with piasspj. Why not just air them up with 78% and then when the other 22% leaks out just top them off and you should be real close to 100% N? You can send me half the price to fill your tires with N for saving you money.

I use Synthetic Nitrogen only. It keeps my tires cooler.

Have it in my truck, don't notice any difference. Still check weekly and fill when necessary with air (nitrogen is 45 miles away).
