The max size that Avon recommend on a stock rim is a 150/80, which I have in my Glide. It should go in without any problems, although I am sure I have read of a 160 being used. The limiting factor, after rim size, is belt clearance.

I had a 160 Dunlop E-3 on but went back to 140 because I didn't like transition going into turns fr. bottom to sidewall when it got worn. I only get 8-9k miles out of rear tires and the 160 may have got 1k more than a 140. HD has gone to the fat tire fad on the newer ones so I guess it doesn't bother most. More money also.

I have a dunlop 160 on the rear of my 07 electra glide classic. It now has almost 8k on it and I have no clearance issues.

I've seen posts where guys have installed the 160 E3 without issue. Maybe had to slightly modify the belt guard.

Proper load rating is even more important than a bigger tire size. Harleys are a lot heavier than sport bikes using the same size, but lower load rating tires.
