I put in an upgrade kit, cams, plate, pump, bearings,etc.., in my 04 EGC last November. I'm hearing what we feel is the rockerbox chattering and was told by a HD tech that a set of adj. pushrods would take care of this.
I found 2 sets of them and see that one is tapered and the other is not. What is the performance difference between the 2 other than one is tapered and the other not? Why would one be better over the other?
That being said, how do I properly install them to correct tolerances? I know that I cut out the old ones with bolt cutters for I did not replace them when I did the upgrade, just pulled the boxes and added new oil breathers while in there. Thanks.
Before you spend money on new pushrods, why don't you make certain where the sound is coming from and why?
Are the cams you put in bolt-in, or could they have a different base circle than stock cams? What lift are they? Maybe you need to clearance the rocker boxes.

And that could be the source of some of your noise. There's a TON of slop room in the rocker boxes. Centering the lower rocker boxes and the rocker shafts can make a big difference.
If you go with HD adjustables, get the tapered ones as they're less likely to rub on the tubes. Adjusting them is easy, but I'd go a little farther than the recommended 2 1/2 turns.

I dropped in SE 204's with the SE upgrade kit. I used Timken bearings. I also used the new SE oil breathers.
I only pulled off the rocker box lids and rockers. No farther. I only hear the noise when I am riding and not at idle. Only under a load. I was told that the new rods adj. to 3 turns and 2-1/2 to 3 turns on the nut.

The 204 is a bolt in cam and not one with a noisy reputation. Did you get the pushrods back in correctly? Short ones are intake, long are exhaust. How many miles on your lifters or were they replaced as well?
Just doesn't seem like you should have to put adjustables in to quiet things down. There has to be a reason for the noise. How bad is it? Could it be a loose heat shield or something else?

**** tell me about the new SE oil breathers...did they help with bolw by you may've had..?
I know the rods are in correct place for we tested each cylinder before firing it up and found no pressure on rear jug. Pulled rods and found out had the 2 backwards. Checked the others, good to go.
Stock lifters. Checked them, no marks, didn't see any need to replace.
Not a heat shield. It is a deep metal sound. I can hear it at highway speeds, not at idle.
I was told that it increases the oil coverage by 15% to the top end. Was recommended by a VERY reputable mechanic in here. Figured while I was in there, why not!!!
