Default DTE Function

When installing a ThunderMax, you do need to go through a procedure to re-enable the DTE function. I have copied the instructions from ThunderMax on how to do this below:

Restoring the Distance to Empty Feature (R Lo)
For 2008-Up Touring Models (Throttle By Wire)
v.12032010
NOTES: The RUN switch (handlebar / rocker switch) must remain in the ON position for this entire procedure. During this process, you’ll have the opportunity to apply dielectric grease to the 73-pin ECM connector, if not already applied. Use of this conductive grease is highly recommended.

You must have the latest firmware and map installed in your module before performing this reset.

Make sure that the cruise control (if equipped) is turned OFF and the bike is in neutral during this process.

Turn ON both the RUN (rocker) switch and the MAIN KEY switch (ignition switch).

to begin.

1. Pull the “MAIN” Maxi fuse.
2. Temporarily disconnect the TMax module from the main harness connector.
3. Connect the Stock ECM.
4. Hold the “trip” button down while re-installing the main fuse.
5. Speedometer should light up and appear as though it is locked up.
6. Release the “trip” button and turn the main key switch “OFF “.
7. Turn the main key switch on then, using the trip button, verify “R LO” is displayed
in the odometer window when cycling through the options.
8. Turn ONLY the main key / ignition switch “OFF”.
9. Remove the ECM fuse, re-connect the TMax module and replace the ECM fuse.
DO NOT PULL THE MAIN FUSE FOR THIS PROCESS.
10. Turn the main key switch on. If “R LO” does not appear repeat the process.
11. Re-initialize the ECM by cycling the main key switch on for 20 seconds
uninterrupted, then OFF for 5 seconds.
12. Range should start working in roughly 50 miles; you will need to use a tank of fuel to normalize reading.

Sorry... the had bike since new threw me for a loop and assumed you were still running the stock ecm. For the thundermax, you'll have to pull it and stick the stock ecm back in to reset the DTE function...

Thanks all. Before reading the post by mr396, I called ThunderMax and they sent the procedure right away to my email. Tried it and it worked great. All is well now! Again, thanks for the great responses.

I have a 2008 Roadking running a Power Commander III. I bought a Power Commander V which I thought would be better for the mods I had planned. After about the 2nd tank of fuel my range indicator would not go over 55 miles. So I tried the procedure from above and it has seemed to work. I drove to the gas station and topped of the tank and range meter jumped to 211 miles.YEE-HAW. But now drove home 7 miles home and still on 211 miles.
I hope it will settle and change. I used to get 220 miles on range clock. Will let you guys know.

All is back to normal again. Do not know why I needed a re-set, but I did. Maybe someone could explain what happened.
