Apologies if this topic has been covered before, I'm aware CVO owners have mentioned the issue.
My dealer told me yesterday there is an issue with the non-CVO breakout insofar as the fuel level indicator may not be entirely accurate and/or low fuel warning may not be relied upon to the extent that some bikes will run out of gas without the owner having had prior warning.
I'm told there should be a fix shortly but to keep an eye on the fuel level in the meantime.
It's happened to me a few times when I wasn't paying attention to my miles - the bike started cutting out on inclines and when I looked I was damn near out of gas. The low fuel warning light never came on and my meter on the upgraded speedo showed half a tank. I just got into the habit of paying more attention to my trip meter B, which I always reset when I fill up (habit from the sportster I had).

same exact thing happened to me on my first tank of gas. Haven't noticed it since, but I also filled up with about half a tank left.
I hear ya on the Sportster. Had a 2.2 gallon peanut tank on my forty eight. After a 3" tank lift I'd only get about 70 miles before it would start cutting out.
Yep, I reset my trip meter and go by mileage and not the gauge. I use the gauge as a *rough* guestimate, but I've never trusted them on any harley I've owned.
so what are most people getting out of a tank of gas on the Breakout- or better question- what's the most you've gotten? 200 miles? I haven't let my gauge run down past a quarter tank yet- the most I've let her run to is about 140 miles so far.
I think we all are very aware of our gas limits, and a crappy gage. I have made 175 so far but pulled over at the next stop. I always take off with full tank and I mean full, I put right up to neck on a leaning bike. Then it says anywhere between 200 and 210. To old to trust that gage crap even in my car. Get into habit of having at least 1/4 tank and on a Breakout that leaves 1.25 gallons. Be safe it could be a long walk home.
To the O.P .... You are correct on the recall ... I punched my VIN in on the Harley website and sure enough ... It has a recall for the kms or miles remaining based on how much fuel you have left sensor ... Its funny though .. they say " we strongly suggest you get your bike into your dealer as this is a safety recall ... LMFAO ... safety issue ?? I think I can tell how much fuel I have without having to rely on a display... The dealer told me it would not be available for me here in Ontario until April 21st ... and suggested that I not ride the bike ... YA OK !!! its beautiful weather here now for a couple of days and my bike has been sleeping for 4 1/2 months ... Not ride it !! I think I will chance it !!
Well it's a good thing they are fixing this instead of the tank Buzz that everyone's bike has on startup. Who makes these decisions. I'm not saying this shouldn't be fixed either but c'mon!
