they are by law supposed to prove it ...they dont u then hire a lawyer spend forever in court and the lawyer charges more than the repair.its hit and miss weather a dealer will report a hitch if the do your screwed harley flags it.

My local dealer informed me that if I wanted warranty work completed that I had better take off the hitch before I bring it in. That is the same reason that I didn't gut the cat out of my OEM headpipe and just bought another one... I want to keep my warranty intact as long as I can.

I suppose it could but I had a good experience with it.

I was pulling a trailer on a trip and had a main bearing failure. There was no place to store the trailer or take the hitch off for that matter so I just pulled into the closest dealer with the trailer and they fixed me up and got me back on the road the same day and in this case, it was a drive line failure that arguably could of been caused by the trailer.

I can't understand why a dealer would look for a reason to not honor a warranty. They get paid for the work, although I suspect that it is at a lower rate.

Under federal law they have to "prove" that any modification directly caused the problem to the vehicle. Just having a hitch installed on the bike will not by law void the warranty.

There are several threads addressing this issue with dealers and warranties.

I know others have had different experiences but in my opinion its just HD's way of protecting themselves.
Glide2meetu,

What trailer hitches have you used on your Ultras? I had a HitchDoctor on my VTX previously and loved it. Curous what is best for my Ultra. Warrantee is up next summer so I will use my tent trailer again.

To each their own I guess, but I never even pulled my radio flyer wagon behind my bicycle. Makes about as much sense to me as an air plane pulling a blimp !
