Hacked, Conversions and Trailering"Harley Sidecar, Conversion Trikes and Motorcycle Pull Behind Trailering Enthusiasts"
A forum for the discussion of your sidecar, Conversion Trike or Pull Behind Motorcycle Trailer.
I am considering buying a new ultra within the next week. I currently pull a bushtec trailer with my 07 ultra. My question is this. I am leaving on Aug 24 for two weeks and plan on riding about 3500 miles before I get back. Should I be concernd about towing a trailer with a brand new bike. Thinking about the break in period. Sure hate to take this road trip with the wife and not the trailer.
Doubt towing the trailer will effect break in it does not weigh that much. However Harley has changed their position on towing a trailer. My 05 owners manual said towing a trailer was not recommended. My friend has an 11 and he said the owners manual says towing a trailer will void the warranty. Guess it might be up to the dealer if there is a warranty issue. Enjoy your trip.
If it was my brand new bike,I would probly be concerned about towing a trailer during the break in period.
I would try to ride it a lot to get the 1000 miles on and get the 1k service done first.I would not worry about the warranty, some dealers don't care.
Why not just wait and take your old bike and not worry?

What brand hitch you going with?
I have a bushtec hitch now but it won't fit the new ride. Was thinking about getting another bushtec hitch as I like the fact that you can barely notice the hitch when not towing the trailer. As far as the warranty I am going through some warranty issues right now with my 07, but I removed the hitch and wiring harness before I took it in. It does state in the warranty info that pulling a trailer will void the warranty. So it's a gamble while on a trip if you have any problems it's up to the dealer. I did talk to a salesperson a and a service writer and they told me it is up to the dealer and that as long as a Harley rep did not have to approve the warranty item you would probably be ok. My luck aint that good.
I have an '09 UC and pull a trailer and have had it into a dealer for warranty with no issues but like said I would try to get some miles on it than ride it like you stole it.
Goodluck for your trip. I just want to share this site for future reference. I got a couple hitch from them and I recommend these guys. Great people to deal with. http://www.hitchanything.com/
