Default Security/Electrical Issue

Good day I am new to this form and thanks in advance for reading and offering help. Now thats done, I have a 2008 Ultra Classic haven't had a lick of problems with it for I just hit the 32,000 mile mark. A few weekends ago I developed a problem, I jumped on the bike to take a Sunday ride and after riding a few blocks away from my home I noticed the security key light on and also noticed that I did not have left turning siginals.

Did some poking around and pulled a b1123 out of the code. Thus far I have pulled the faring off checked light sockets for corriusion and propper bulbs and surveyed the whole left side for a cut/losse wire. what I have found out that sometimes it is intermitted. Example if you turn the igination switch to on the turn siginals do not work (sometimes), but if you turn igination switch off and then on they will work. Now I cannot tell you if that has been the case the whole time or not.

Could it be the turn siginal cancaltion modgulator? Can some enlighten me with some new knowledge.

Electrical is a mystery to me but this is what B1123 means.

B1123 (HFSM) Left Turn Output Short to Ground

That is what I found also. Now yesterday the blinkers are working all the time. But, my rear left side lights on the brackets that displays my blinker, running lights and brake lights is out. Brake and blinker work but not the running light.

Remove the bulbs in the front and rear directionals. (Both Sides)

At the Hands Free Security Module unplug the wire harness containing the violet wire (left turn feed output). This is the wire the B1123 is refering to.

Using a multi-meter read for continuity between pin 5 and pin 12 on the wire side of the connector. (Pin 6 and 12 checks right side wiring). If there is continuity between pin 5 and pin twelve with the bulbs removed and connector apart there definitely is a wire shorted to ground (Purple).

If not, with the multi-meter connected to check continuity between 5 and 12 check the wiring by flexing the conduit containing the violet wire for it's entire length gently while monitoring for continuity reading.

Pay particular attention to the various points of connection. (Under the seat, in the tail/brake light base.)

If you can't make the problem re-occur, it's time for a trip to the dealer because it is likely the HFSM itself.

All this info is in the Electrical Diagnostic Manual. Well worth the cost in my opinion.

I had the exact same issue. Pull the fairing off, and check the wire bundle that runs at the back / top off the radio. The wires are rubbing on top of the radio braket, the vibration will cause eratic problems. Being the same bike i think this may be your problem. Remember to roll the wires so you can check for rub marks. Let me know if this helps..........
