Use the search function. There's a ton of info on stereos on here all the time.

As one poster said, it depends how much $ you have to put in it. As soon as you say that, then you will get a more informative answer/opinion.

You guys buying all this J&M, Boom, and Hogtunes stuff ought to look into your local car audio store at some marine grade speakers. JL Audio and Kicker, just to name a couple, make marine grade speakers and class D amps.

I just installed the Vibe 2 amp, which was 139.95. I already had installed a set of J&M 7.25, of which I wasn't that happy with.
Once I installed the amp, it really brought the speakers to life. I can turn it up to half volume, and hold my hand six inches away from the speakers, I can really feel the air they are pushing, and there's way more bass than before the amp.
The J&Ms can be had for under 200.00.
The amp is not plug and play, so you have to wire it yourself, and you also have to trim the speedo and tach housings with a dremel.
All told with the speakers, the amp, and the wiring, your looking at about 365.00.
It certainly isn't the system some of these guys have, where they have put 800.00 to 2500.00 into, but I'm happy with it.

Depending on your budget is where you will get the best answer to your question. I would suggest going to your local car audio place and they can tell you exactly what will make your system sound good.

In the thread title, you say 'Sound System".

Are you looking for a "Sound System", or a speaker/amp upgrade ??

Knowing that, ............and how much coin you wanna drop, are the first 2 questions !!!

Amen, Glacierpearl! My question exactly...

**and for information bass is lost at about 35mph. I thought about adding 8in subs in my stereo set up but lost the sound while moving. Now when you are parked WOW it was very impressive!

Search my threads and you will see that I just added a sound system, Glacierpearls is far better than mine, read his thread!

"Best way" will be a combination of how much money are you prepared to spend, and what mods, if any, to the bike are you willing to make.

There is a big premium in cost if you stay with HD upgrades for XM and/or iPod features. If you want that and don't plan to HD's CB or Intercom, there's no reason to retain Harman Kardon radio; aftermarket products are far better and far less costly.

The OEM speakers are very low grade and there are tons of good speakers to choose from.

Lots of folks are happy with upgraded speakers; others add speakers and Hogtunes Hog Pod tweeters; others add better speakers and add-on in-fairing amp; others (myself included) add better speakers, add-on amp, CVO speaker boxes in the fairing lowers; all or some of the above with speakers in the saddlebags; others add amps in the saddlebags or tour pak with speakers in every mountable location.

Audio is one of those mods that you start to make and your choices may change over time; unless you've been down the road before, it's very difficult to know what you want when you start--but that's part of the fun.

Good luck with your research.

Carl

I would say the ad on of the Harley Boom speakers would be a good start. One of the best upgrades I did to my SG.

I have a ARC mini amp and Hertz 6.5inch speakers...More bass than many other speakers I have heard. Great sound for the money.
