searching for parts
Hi, I have been searching for a luggae rack and passenger back reat for my 1989 electra glide sport flhs for over a year with no success. Maybe some one out there can help. Harley davidson has discontinued this part but they were able to find the part number in an old 1989 partsbook. The part # is 53405-87B the catilog description is HD HDM Chrome 4 -channel.
If anyone can guide me to where I can buy this part new or used, it would be fantastic. Please help. Thanks.
Tony

I had one of those on my 94 RK. Are you set on having that particular rack? If not, you should be able to use a quick disconnect kit and a newer rack that is detachable. I'm almost positive that the 89 frame and the 94 frames were the same, and if that is the case, you can use any four point docking kit up to the 2008 frames.
I had a detach tourpack kit on my 94 (after I removed the rack), and I have the same rack/kit on my 08 SG. My brother had a 97 RK, (new frame style, like my 08) and he borrowed my tourpack for a trip, and all we had to do was move one of the front docking point into the other mount.
You may have to get friendly with a parts guy at your dealer who is willing to look up parts for you rather than ask 'What year?' but the detach kits should work fine, and those are alot easier to find.

1989 flhs electra glide sport parts Back rest & luggage rack
Hi, Thanks for your reply, I would rather have the original part that was made for the bike, However if worst gets worst, I will try the parts you mentioned, could you send or guide me to where I can see a pic of the parts in question?
