Hi everyone, I'm new one here and hoping I can get some info. I looking for a bike to buy, probably get one next year. I really like the looks of the street glides bc of the bags, but one things I'm no real crazy about if the front fairing. So I'm wondering if it would be possible to take it off and keep driving it with out any problems, I know I would lose the radio and some gauges. But I'm not sure if this is possible or if there are kits to buy to deal with the wiring that goes to the fairing. I'm new to the Harley scene and can't really find any info or accessories that I like. Any help will be greatly appreciated for any info and sites that will help me out. Thanks in advance.
You should be looking at the Road King Standard then. It has hard bags, but no fairing. I'm sure its not impossible to remove the fairing and still be able to drive the bike, but it sure would be a lot of work. Makes more sense to buy a bike as close to what you want as possible rather than buy something you don't want and try to change it.
On a side note, the first bike I ever bought was a Road King Standard because I liked the hard bags and did not like the fairing. After two years I bought an after market fairing so I could have a stereo. Four years later I sold it and bought my Street Glide. Couldn't be happier. Love the bat-wing fairing.
Thanks guys, I spend about 6 hours looking for info on all this and it only took about 15 min to post this and get the answer i needed. I'm definitely going to be a regular on here.
There are also a few aftermarket fairings you can add to the Road King if you ever feel the need.
But you remove the fairing on a Glide and you lose more than just the radio... Speedo, fuel gauge -- And you'll have some pretty goofy looking handle bars...
You have probably never seen what's inside the fairing on a modern Harley. There's a heck of a lot of stuff in there. Trying to remove the fairing would take some major engineering.
