Well I found a Bro on e-Bay that just did a Screaming Eagle update and the old stock heads were up for grabs. So I managed to get him to let them go for a song and less than 3 days later the heads were delivered to the dealership and installed.

[quote=djl;8653091]A Time Sert kit will cost about $150, plus the labor. I know there are some home remedies for drillling in place and keeping metal out of the combustion chamber but I don't trust any of them, particularly if a dealer tech is doing the work.

the aluminum is not all that big a deal, putting a fairly thick brg grease on the drill bit and on the tap catch 98% of the chips, blow out the hole with air and after install fire it up, what little left will happily exit via the exhaust valve. done it thousands of time with zero problems on all types of vehicles with alloy heads

I bought a pair of low miles heads for 250. The costs of the better grade inserts and the questionability of metal fragments from the process falling into your motor makes me think getting a set of used low mile take off heads is a better way to go.

Happy for ya. Like I said, always the chance for a fukup; not worth it IMHO. Too easy to R/R the heads for the job or an exchange.

Yeah it is. I was surprized at the amount of used heads for sale there. Some were garbage, but 98% were in excellent condition..
