Default adj backrest for SG - needed mods

Bought the HD adjustable backrest for my 11 SG a few weeks ago. Easy install and worked as avertised. Only problem was that the SG seat is cut much lower than the seats on the Classic, Limited and ultra so the bracket stuck out to the sky and the backrest just kind of hung in mid air.

Checked with parts department and the bracket supplied in the kit in the only one available. As I've got a few bad disks in my lower back and needed the back rest lower than what hieght adjustment was availabe - that just would not do.

Went to my buddies shop last night, took off the bracket, removed the backrest itself from the bracket and took a 1 3/4 " section out of it to make it shorter. a little prepping, welding, sand blasting and paint and it was all good to go.

Put it back together this morning and re-installed it. it now sits almost flush with the top of the seat and puts the support right where it is needed.

Just wanted to give the heads up to anyone else that wants the backrest and wants it to sit as low as possible.

Great idea! I have mine all the way down, and it could stand to be a tad lower. A bigger issue for me right now is the HUGE backrest i have for my wife tho....gonna havta find one that's not so big n ugly!

Do you ever ride 2up??? I'm wondering if lowering it will interfere with the passengers legs. I think my wife kinda locks her legs under my backrest to help hold on when she's not holding onto me.

I ride 2 up every once in a while. Have the 4 point docking station and the old tour pac from my last glide that I throw on. Take my daughters or wife for rides ( couple hour / local rides ) I do not have the back rest on for the shorter rides as it does get in the way a little bit for them.

Most of the riding is solo - and for that it will work well. Taking a 3 day ride this weekend solo, so will be testing it out a lot.
