Default adjusting bars on 2011 road king

Hi

I have a 2011 Road King and just had the dealer put on the Heritage style bars.
I was not happy with where they positioned them and want to adjust them FW

I thought all I would have to do is remove the plastic cover and expose the the 2 back bolts loosen them and rotate the bars where I wanted and retighten them.

Is that correct or do I need to do more than that ?

Thanks in advance for the advise?

Hey Steve, pop those plastic things off if you can without scratching anything and then loosen the two hex screws or whatever they are. I just did this a few weeks back. I turned my front wheel as far as it goes and then brought the bars back so that the left side had just a bit of clearance to the speedometer casing on the tank. Made a huge difference for me. I still am looking for the right bars but this adjustment has allowed me some relief on the wrists and whatnot. I used a torque wrench and tightened to around 18 foot pounds, as the tech in the dealership did. Good luck. Ride safe. Have fun.

Had the dealer install mine also. Wasn't happy with the position, so I popped off the cover and used the torx bit (T27?) and adjusted them back, making sure they didn't hit the gas tank when turning. Piece of cake!

OK did that and moved them FW. Tightened the screws back to around 17-18Ft/lb

When I grab the bars they will move back and forth a little and it seems like the clamp/riser assembly is moving. I checked the 2 bolts that hold the risers and they are tight.

Are the bars supposed to move a little it is almost like they have rubber bumpers in them.

I did not try to pull on the bars before I adjusted them so I do not know if they did it before I moved them.

Great thanks I couldn't see where loosing those 2 bolts would cause anything else to happen.

I just never pulled on them like that before and noticed the movement.

It's amazing what the mind will do when you start paying attention to the little things. You wouldn't believe what my mind started 'feeling' when I had to lay my road king down in my garage when I got it in a weird position. Now, if something happens, I just chuck it up to breaking the bike further in to my wheelhouse! When I mentioned that in a thread, someone wrote and said 'lay it down on the other side'....too funny and point well taken.
