Default Intercom V)X and PTT not working

I have a 2009 FLHTCUI that has the intercom system and purchased a set of Boom Audio half helmet headsets and everything works fine except when trying to communicate with the passenger. It doesn't work when you press the push-to-talk button or when you use the voice activated(VOX) feature. I have tried to set the sensitivity level on the high and low end of the spectrum with no luck. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this or do I possibly have a bad set of new headsets?

When you try to talk to the passenger, can you hear yourself in your headset? Just to eliminate the obvious, is the volume turned up for the passenger headset on the HK unit?

Yes I have the passenger volume turned up to the half way point and I can't hear myself in the headset.

Have you gotten a radio check on the CB to verify that the mic works?

No, I haven't actually done that. What is the best way to do that? I'm new to this headset thing.

Turn on the CB, (push the com buttom on the HK unit, then push the 1 softkey to turn CB on or off), plug in the headset, find a channel with plenty of traffic (19 is used a lot) push and hold the PTT and ask for a radio check. If you get one, it may take a few tries to get sombody to reply to you, then you pretty much know the head set is good, and the problem is somewhere else.

I do think it is strange that you are not hearing yourself in your own headset though. I always do. Kinda makes me think you got a bum set.

I will try that tomorrow and post my results. Thanks for your help. I also think I got a bum set of headsets. The dealer I bought them at thinks so too but I haven't been able to get by there to let them check them out. I just thought maybe I was doing something wrong.

We use the stock headsets in our helmets and from time to time we have this issue. Check the connections in the helmet. If we wiggle enough wires we always get it sorted.

Default Headset problem Fixed

Wouldn't you know it. It was as simple as turning the volume in each headset up to almost the highest level. I didn't realize they had to be turned nearly wide open to be able to communicate. Thanks for everyones input on here. Happy Trails...oh and Happy New Year to all.
