Why is every Harley part I want on Back-Order?
I walked into my dealer over the weekend and I had some cash to blow, so I was going to order the contrast chrome Agitators for my Street Glide....I had the money, so I was gonna do it before I changed my mind.....but of course, the wheels are on back order until the end of March. I hate the idea of buying something and not getting it for 2 months.......maybe. If they were available, I would have snagged them right away, but now that I have to wait, I'm second guessing buying them. The devil on my shoulder says buy them, the angel says you don't need them.....the devil would have won if they were in stock!

LOL! This started for me when I bought my 2010 StreetGlide new. I wanted all the chrome goodies on the CVO version added to my bike before I rode it home. Of course everything I wanted had to be ordered (dont know what the CVO guys do!). Then over the past two years I had a few warranty repairs (rear taillight; ABS sensor, etc). Every time I had to wait for a part to be ordered. Yesterday I went down to get a 5/16th bolt I needed for a shifter peg......had to order it.....$1.60 for a bolt.
I think most Dealerships now keep hardly anything in stock to keep their inventory costs down and rather rely on ordering from the MoCo when and if they need something. Of course the sheeple have no choice but to wait.

A lot depends on the item too. Bolts on backorder is crazy, but the Agitators are a very popular wheel......
It is the winter too, so bike mods are at a high level, demand is further stressing the supply.
You would think HD would plan for this with all the marketing data they do. It's not hard to pull historical trends.

A buddy of mine wrecked his bike a couple months ago and it's been at the dealer all this time. Finally, all the parts came in and they put it all back together. Then, after they called and said it would be ready the next day, they realize one bolt was missing from the highway lights. Guess what? Another two to three weeks to get that. I understand they're keeping less inventory but sheesh!
