Default Can I make my 2 ohm speaker 4 ohm

I am running infinity kappa 6.5 speakers in my fairing, I am looking to purchase the RF 300x4 and it is rated at 4 ohm only. I will add speakers in my bags later so that is why I am getting the 4 channel amp. My question is how or can I even make a 2 ohm speaker 4 ohm is it as simple as buying a 2 ohm resistor from radio shack and putting it in series with the speaker or if I added a tweeter pod would I be able to wire the tweeter in series with the fairing speaker

resistor would eat up alot of amp power-

maybe the pods if that's what you wanted, or look at new speakers

As mkguitar said, the resistor would just waste energy. Adding a tweeter in series would help the cause so long as the resistance summed to give you the 4 ohm or higher impedance you were after.

Also depending on the volumes you listen at would drive the resistor wattage. So depending wether you use carbon or wire wound, the resistor could be sizeable and mounting would be a consideration because of the heat it would dissapate.

Simple answer is to the resistor is...No. The Ohm rating on speaker is actually a rating placed on it derived from inductive reactance over a range of frequencies taking into effect a crossover. It is not a purely resistive measurement.

The easiest way to accurately double the impedance would be to add a similar speaker in series- negative terminal of one speaker is wired to the positive speaker of the second speaker. (@ 2 ohm speaker(s) would then = 4 ohm load to the amp).

Have you considered an Arc Audio 125.4? It will run with a 2 ohm load, it will fit in a batwing, and will provide much better power than the RF
