Thanks Mike, I sent HitchDoc an e-mail just to make sure they have one for 06 Ultra Classic.

John Preston owns Bushtec Trailers in Tennesee. He also makes a great hitch and a hidden hitch also. He is a great guy to deal with. I started with him 5 goldwings ago.

Get a quality made trailer and don't overload it just because you have the room. I havean Elkart that is mostlyaluminum, pulls great & has lots of lights on the back.

Toyman,

Most of what I've read states that the tongue weight can't exceed 40 lbs or 10% of your trailer weight. Most sites I've gone to don't specify the weight of their trailers. How much does your trailer weigh when fully loaded? Thanks for the info.

Don't be surprised if you're told that warranty claims will be rejected. The MoCo doesn't respond well on this.
I saw it happen.I was at the local shop one day and saw a Man very pissed off because they wouldn't cover something due to his hitch (sorry but I don't know the whole story)I would ask the service manager at your local shop before hand to cover your arss.I bet you'll be alright if H D installs it.

American Legend Trailers offers aelectrical connector harness that plugs inline to your taillight plug under the seat. A little exspensive but no cutting, splicing or tapeing. Easy to do. Go to www.american-legend .com. Don't believe if a dealer installs a hitch and plug and the SM tells you hewill cover your back. HD DOES NOT recommend trailers. period. Studies have shown why. I'm not saying not to get one, however if something does happen and you are not covered, that dealer will assume all liabilities. No MOCO lawsuit here.
Pay very close attention to tires and tire pressure. Number one cause of accident related injury is tire failure. You are almost guaranteed to go down if the rear tire fails.

The 10% rule is a good one to follow and 400-600 lb.s is all I'd want to put behind my bike.
You have to remember you have to be able to stop this load not just pull it.
Steep inclines will really work a bike's engine, clutch& brakesespecially if your riding two up.
My cousin has a surge brake system on his pop up tent trailer that he pulls with his Gold Wing.
It's a pretty cool setup!
I'll try to post a picture of what I have soon.

All Ya have to do is put a new ball on it and say after you put it on you found out about warranty issue and that you never pulled anything. They have to cover it. AnyDealer whom you have bought bike from and or shop at regularly should go out of his way to cover your problems. Just like the pipe thing. If Harley puts your pipes on, even if they are not Harley pipes they will cover-if they ain't Harley they might give you flak. It's all about selling Harley stuff. A few years back a lot of the Dealers around my area were putting $ 500 Vance & Hines pipes on bikes on showroom floor and charging an extra $ 800 bucks. That was OK then. I get a little miffed at the MOCO for looking for any excuse to void warranty They were not like that years ago. I seen 'em go way out of their way years ago to cover stuff that was even off warranty. To the content of your thread-we pull CycleMate with ULTRA. And I have new ball in trailer. We really like it and the stuff we take with now is a blessing. The only advice I can give you is don't forget it's there and as others say-don't overload it. Happy trailering.

Someone else here mentioned the Bushtec hitch system. They likely make one of the stoutest hitches out there - and you can buy a kit complete with the wiring harness adapter that'll tap into yer tail light system without puttin' any additional load on it. Very simple install, and you don't git a bag of parts with a multi-copied set of instructions. They also make a purty sweet trailer....

Way late on this one, it may help someone looking lately though. MCHITCH makes a very good receiver&nbsp\\;hitch also. It's powdered coated black (virtually&nbsp\\;invisable on a black bike) durable and over built. I pull a leesurelite with a 2008 Streetglide and it pulls without much notice. A couple of years ago went from Chattanooga to Nova Scotia (2005 Ultra) with no propblems at all.
