Default Garmin USB Charging Cable

Has anyone found a USB cable that will work as a charging cable for a Garmin Nuvi? A regular Type A to Mini USB cable makes the unit think it connected to a PC. I know a resistor between pins 4 and 5 on the mini USB side is whatthe unit is looking for but haven't a cable with that.

You need to have something that will step down the voltage to 5vdc. Google hard wire power Garmin.

Her's one:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Hardwir.../dp/B001M09L20

and another:

One word of caution. I would silicone seal the module and also plug the usb end when not in use. a little water, and the thing is toast.

I already have a converter. I just want a cable with the resistor in it.

Yes if you look at the accessories. There is a combo cable set. It has a cable for the computer and a 110v AC cable. It plugs into the cradle just like the 12v DC cable and I purchase a Griffen cigerette charger with 2 USB ports. This Griffen also reduces power to 5 amps. When I plug in and turn the bars it does not hit the tank and all I have to do is pop the GPS out the cradle and store it when I stop some place.

I use the same cable for my Zumo 550 as I do for my Nuvi 550. Both use the regular usb on one end an a mini usb on the other. And yes it thinks it is hook up to a pc, but it still charges it. I do the same for my phone.

I got a newer Nuvi GPS and at the same time got the flush mount plug and a usb cable to neaten up the mess, and was frustrated by the computer mode jumping up each time power cycled on install or starting the bike, didn't realize the difference on the cable types. Cool info here. Going with the cable dlongo8241 suggested.

There are basic kits that wire to your battery, they have the voltage step-down in them, you can get them for USB (mini or micro): http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/CTGY/power.html

There's also no-wire USB chargers: http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/CTGY/SOLAR.html

There's a website that sells USB power plugs that I believe have waterproof boots on them, made for motorcycles, and they allow you to charge and use the nav without it thinking it's plugged into a PC. I have to look for the link, but it was mentioned in another thread on here where the OP uses it in conjunction with a Griffin USB/cigarette plug adapter.
