Taking a ride around Lake Superior...suggestions
The wife and I will be taking a ride around Lake Superior this July.
We'll be traveling up the Mississippi until Minneapolis - then heading north to Duluth, Minnesota. From this point we'll follow along Lake Superior until we get to Sault Ste Marie.
My request to everyone: Suggestions on places to stay (Hotels/motels, etc); Sites to see/visit.
Thanks in advance.

Okay. Also it stays quite cool around the lake so bring layers.
If you go the north shore Make sure you make stops at Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Light House, Palisade Head (hard to find but a really cool road up to the massive rock outcropping like 300' straight down over the lake, just past Silver Bay, take the time to find it). Great short hikes at the Cascade River and my favorite the Baptism River.
Good places to stay are Lamb's (camping), and by the way the State Parks are usually very full for camping so plan ahead. http://www.northshorevisitor.com/lodging/scenic-61.html Some I have stayed at are Cascade Lodge, Lutsen Lodge and if you can get in the Naniboujou Lodge is fantastic. All three are great.

I did that exact trip two years ago. My suggestion is take your time and enjoy the sites. In Canada many tourist things are not marked very well. Lots of waterfalls to see. Just past Thunder Bay about 30 miles is Ouimet Canyon. It is a MUST SEE!! Google it and you will know why. Rainbow falls is another cool site. Route 1 to Ely, MN is a beautiful road. Be careful of moose, would not recommend riding at dusk or dawn and you might be in the black fly season in July so bring plenty of spray with deet in it. You might also google Lake Superior Circle tour and it will give you lots of info. Enjoy as it is a beautiful ride.
