Default 5th Gear Slipping

I am having a heck of a time trying to adjust 5th gear slippage out of stock 2010 FLHTCU. Got it as of last night where you have to roll on it pretty hard to get slippage but it's still there. Saw mention in earlier post that there may be a trap door bearing issue that is a "silent" recall. Anyone out there heard or know about that? I have an appointment in two weeks to get some work done and would like to bring this up if there is anything to it (would also like to avoid paying dealer to do the adjusting). Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't that be the clutch?

Well that's what I think and where I have been making adjustments. I searched this issue though and saw reference in an old post to the trap door bearing maybe playing a role. I don't know what a trap door bearing does so beats me if it could be related.

If you think you have your clutch adjusted properly and it still slips, you'll probably have to install a stiffer clutch diaphragm spring.

Ain't a big deal to do so, spring costs about $30.

Plenty of threads on this here site on what's involved and which spring is 'best'.......

Like syn or dino, there's plenty of opinion.

Thanks. I'll do a search on springs cause I've about exhausted the adjustment route. Slippage isn't bad now, basically have try hard to make it happen but just knowing it's there is enough.

Juming out of gear, grinding gear, or clutch slipping when under load? Do you have full synthetic oil in the primary?

Problem with the stock spring is that it's an 'easy pull' spring. Easy to pull, but less tension on the clutch pack.

I put the Screamin' Eagle spring in mine as I was getting slippage with the stock '06 spring. Didn't really notice slippage, but it showed up on the dyno chart when I was gettin' the bike tuned. And my clutch was adjusted just fine......

Others suggest the spring that came with like an '03 tourer. That spring covers several different years. It's stiffer than the '06 and up but softer than the SE. It seems like it'd be a good compromise.

I don't know the part number off hand.

It takes about half a day to get used to the stiffer spring. Now it feels normal.

And like Melancon questions, the type of primary oil you're using may contribute to the problem you're having.

I use Formula+. Always have.......

Get the S.E. spring and while your at it the factory workshop manual. Doesn't sound like you have one and it will answer the install questions you have. Will save a ton of money in a short amt. of time.

Thanks for the responses. I am going to look into the primary oil and factory workshop manual and start there.

I have heard of transmissions jumping out of gear, but not slipping. If it is not the clutch I am going to learn something by following this thread.
