Default Fork Wind deflectors

There seems to be some confusion when it comes to the correct installation of the HD fork mounted wind deflectors. Does the flap at the top of the deflector angle back towards the rear wheel or angle towards the front wheel ?

It's impossible to tell from the photos in the installation sheet, and I just searched through multiple pages of previous posts, but I couldn't find a photo that shows definitively angle back or angle forward.

One poster made a point to say angle towards the front, but I just don't think that is correct. So, instead of guessing, I figured someone will be able to describe the correct orientation.

Thanks.

Dawg,

You can't tell from this picture. I've seen many other pictures from this same angle, but you can't see whether the angle at the top goes toward the rear or the front. I'm almost positive it angles towards the rear, but then when I read someone's post that it should angle towards the front, I started to second guess myself.

And these can go on either way.

Oh you can definately install these backwards. They fit so well in either direction, I really wondered which was the correct orientation.

One way they rubbed against my lower fairings and restricted steering...... but it LOOKED right. The other way looks backwards, but doesn't rub or restrict steering. Either way the air dam was effective.

I opted for backasswards and no damage or restriction. The photos are unclear on my copy.

Just put these on. Got them backwards the first time. The top piece angles to the back of the bike. If you get them on wrong they will restrict steering and hit the crash bars. My right one still hits the crash bar when turned full right.

As KCFLHRC said, the top angles back. The sides angle towards the front. If you just look at them it's easy to assume they go the other way, but they don't. Mine still hit the engine guard, but they'd hit it a lot sooner if they were on backwards. I'm fixing that problem in the next couple of days by installing a Lindby Linbar, it just arrived today. It has a lower cut on the sides, so the deflectors won't hit it.

Based on the catalog picture and the post with picture above the top angles forward and sides andle back.

Or I just mounted mine wrong?

I agree the other way might seem to actually look better?

How do we know for sure?

I can't really tell which way the planes are going in the above photo because of the view angle and the chrome reflections. Here's a pic that's more obvious:

Mine are from the above site and that's how I have them mounted. I thought they were all the same, but I suppose it's possible that other manufacturers intend for them to be installed the opposite of this.

The picture in TheArchitect's post is backwards.

As you sit on the bike, the sides angle away from you, and the top angles the air up and out of your face.
