I agree, roll on comparisons aren't rocket science. I think it's lacking in the tune.

If the 103 was in stage I with a decent tune, the outcome isn't a surprise, (considering the same gearing on both bikes). If it was truly stock (exhaust, air cleaner, fuel mapping), I'd expect a decently prepped 96 with stage I mods and 255 cams to have the advantage.

You got LOTS to learn, bud... Maybe ya should quit postin' ignorant remarks 'till your a little better edumacated...

If the 103 is epa stock.... I'd be LIVID! Stock 103's are SLUGS!

Your tune is WAY OFF. Shouldn't even be close.

Get the bike tuned.... Oh, and roll that throttle all the way back to the stop.

Just sayin'

I'd have to agree with it being the tune. I don't have a 255 but even my buds with a stage 1 103 and no cat get left behind when we crank on the throttles.
Drop some $ on a good dyno tune and try to get before and after numbers to see if that was the issue. My can tune from Jamie was great but after putting some miles on the auto tune the bike has became much stronger. You don't have any slippage in fifth gear do you? Did you install a heavier spring on the clutch after your cam install?

First off, you mentioned what you had done to your bike but you don't say what your post-mod dyno numbers are. I'm guessing from what you had done that it probably got you an extra 10-15 HP over stock? That should get you to around what a stock 103 makes.

Now, given that the EGC is about 50lbs heavier than the SG and (as everyone has mentioned) the difference in the gearing, it's pretty clear that the SG is going to be quicker. Even if the gearing is the same, the SG is going to be quicker (i.e. same horsepower - less weight assuming you both weigh about the same).

I agree with the other that say to get it dyno tuned. The aftermarket calibration will get you in the ballpark, but dyno tuning will let you play

Default Other things to consider.

Weight:
I would take a serious look at weight differences before I went crazy messing with the tune on the bike. Not only do the bikes have a stock weight difference and previously mentioned if your older bike has been farkled up with add ons and your built like a linebacker and your friend is a bean pole the differences in weight are going to add up quickly.

Drag coefficent:
Are you two running the same windscreen? That thing makes a huge difference. If he's running that shorty that comes on the SG and you have your stock 12" screen its going to be a factor.

Fairing lowers? do you have them on your bike?

Just some stuff to consider.

I doubt if a dyno tune will help unless you have installed the wrong tune from FM. Make sure the tune description, viewable on your computer, is for your bike and configuration. From my experience their tunes are very close.

After you did the cam upgrade, how did it feel? Was it noticeably stronger than with the stock cams? I don't want to be an alarmist, but there are things that can go wrong during a cam upgrade, like cam misalignment and sumping. Either will adversely affect performance and the latter will make the bike run hot.

Good point. If the other guy cheated by being in 4th gear it would make a big difference.
