Canadian helmet laws
Get used to it...There are a few in govt that are preparing (national helmet) laws that would check model and P/N of the helmet with a national database to verify against the mfgr that the helmet is indeed DOT. And if it isn't and you have a DOT sticker they are looking at confiscation of the license and or bike and a mandatory appearance before the judge.
Yes DOT is mandatory, there are some low profile helments that comply. As said bring your passport, and definitely don't pack a weapon. Sixty mph is the norm, some 65' 110 Kim's.
I've heard of the staggered rule however never been stopped. AAA is CAA membership is good here for help and hotel rates.
Enjoy your ride and welcome, great riding here. Enjoy.

I have found if you act like a azz they will pull you over for anything and that is when they check helmets and stuff. I have been riding up here for a long time and the only time I ever got pulled over was for being a fool.
If you can get a dot helmet go for it cause you don't need a hassle for anything like that up here. Also remember don't go 50 kph over the speed limit where ever you riding because that will be a charge of racing and you will lose your ride for a week. You find this happens more often when you are riding a two lane road then come into a little town where they drop the speed limit real quick and you will find it's real easy to be doing 50 over.
Remember your passport and leave the guns at home, other that that enjoy your trip, there is some nice riding up here
Don't let the guys scare you- the police here are no different than most places in the US- if you act and ride like a douche, you'll attract attention and be treated accordingly.
If you act and ride normally as you would at home, which I can see you will, you won't have any more issues than you do at home.
The only scary police stories I've heard are from small town USA, where a good chunk of their budgets are from the revenue generated by tickets. It isn't like that here- we have very few really small police forces, and fines generated from tickets don't go directly to that police force.
