I know there are many threads out there for mounting flags (large ones) to the support brackets and lower portions of a bagger.
I am hoping someone knows where I can find one that mounts to the luggage rack or the like that allows me to fly a 3x5 flag. I know the most common style for this part of the bike would be a smaller flag, but I want to mount a 3x5!
I am stationed overseas and will be enjoying the 4th on post with other riders. If you got any idea, I could use the help!
Get a piece of diamond plate that fits on the rack, weld a tube to it with gussets for strength and u-bolt it to your rack. That is what some of the guys here do. Obviously, it's a home-made thing but it works.

I keep forgetting to get a picture of the finished product. This was still in the construction phase. The beauty of using a detachable backrest is, it can be installed/removed in a few seconds.
Passenger rest, without the pad. Some aluminum plate (2 plates per mount). Don't ask where I got the extruded fittings.... I don't remember ("U" bolts would also work)
I have run this thing at 80 mph with no problem. The pole is PVC, with an aluminum tube, and an oak dowel inside. I run a 3 X5 50 star cavalry guidon flag. Similar to this except for the stars http://www.carrot-top.com/media/cata...guidon_1_1.jpg ...... the notch allows the flag to cut through the wind easier....... old cavalry trick to keep the guidon bearer from getting thrashed around by the flag riding in a full gallop charge. The notch also helps to keep the flag from doing the loud SNAP, and helps to keep it from shredding at highway speeds.
The view from the back
The view from the front (towards the rider) If you want to have a passenger, you will either have to figure out a pad..... or just have a really pissed off passenger.

Thanks all for the assistance. I will look into each. i have limited resources where i am to build my own... if I was stateside i would swing ny a Lowes, or Home depot and get it done, but it's a bit harder over here.
thanks again.
I would suggest not mounting a 3' x 5' flag to the luggage rack unless you are only at very low speeds. There is a lot of force that comes with flying a flag of this size and should be done very cautiously. Thank you for your service

That's a very good point. Luggage racks are rated at somewhere around 15-20 lbs capacity.
That's why I use the passenger backrest. If one of those can support a fat chick, it should hold a flag.

There's no way a luggage rack would support a 3'x5' flag. It'll end up ripping your rack, or lid (or both) right off the bike. I would only fly a 3'x5' with a pole that was attached somehow to the lower part of the back fender, and/or trailer hitch. You'll also need some kind of brace around the TourPak as well. That's my .02 anyway.
