Default A crazy idea...

Has anyone removed the baffles from a couple of V&H 4" rounds?
Can it be done?
Would I want to?
I mean they sound better than stock... but I'd like to scare small children and soccer moms without getting arrested.

Not enough difference, V&H has a balance of tuning and sound volume.

Besides, what kind of person wants to scare children and their hard working mothers?

Why not put on 60 extra pounds and share your head? Thats scary

B/C I'm tired of four wheelers like yourself not paying attention to MC's. Loud pips get their attention.

loud bikes tend to be slower.

the loudest bike I ever heard, was so slow on a freeway onramp that I went around him on my '53. it took him better than 6 miles to catch up.

removing baffles or packing from the muffler will make for a sudden drop in exhaust gas velocity, gasses may reverse or eddy-further slowing...but in any case the velocity will drop.

If your headers have a crossover and you are using scavenging to get better torque numbers, that will be affected as well.

While I am with you, and in my mind roll a grenade under every car that has a texter, phoner or make up applier at the wheel...even with loud pipes you can't assume they will suddenly drive better.
You gotta be head's up and position yourself well in traffic.
...and don't ever for a second assume that pipes will scare elk, they will walk right out in front of you.

Probably the best performing loud pipe is the Thunderheader.

This is all assuming that the cat has been removed from your header, or you have an aftermarket no-cat header- that would be your first step

Love hearing the ' loud pipes ' comments ....they do not save lives...the only time they are heard is at a stop, and after ones passes another on the road. All the sound goes backwards. Look at emergency vehicles ...all the noise coming from them is at the front and gets quiet as soon as they pass. Think it over good before you start flaming me about this.

100% agree. Just think about how they advertise new vehicles. The biggest point is usually that you will not hear any "outside" noise. Now add in cell phone, loud music or what ever else they are doing they wont hear you. Followed a car at work for 3 block with lights, sirens and air horn all going, lady never even noticed we were behind her. Lucky for us she turned so we could continue on our way to our call. But it is a free country so do as you please.

Thanks so much for your input. Fuel Moto had a short fact sheet about exhaust vs. hp and torque. And guest what, they said exactly what you did. I just wasn't hearing what I read. I guess you explained it better.
