How challenging is Beartooth pass
Good day.
With the refinements/road improvenements made to the "Beartooth"; it has now become
just another highway that goes over a mountain. It will no longer test a riders skill and will let the "foolish" even become more "foolish" because most of the more serious corners have been widened.
As far as Yellowstone goes; animals won't/shouldn't be your major concern but people who do the silliest things to get that "animal picture" should be.

I went over in July of 10. T-shirt weather in Red Lodge and full leathers by the time we got to the top. The road is great and like mentioned before, it's not a race. Take your time and enjoy the ride.
Beartooth is a great road. In June you could get snow, just make certain you plan your trip for after the sun has been up a bit and plan to get off the mountain before dark. The entire beartooth road is not a great distance however it is fairly technical. If you have ridden the needles in SD then you can handle it. The biggest concern is weather. I have ridden it in late june and been snowed on. I have ridden in August and seen rain and sleet. The last time i was up there part of the road was under construction.
chief joseph highway is great as well, but the kicker in the deal. is riding out of Cody into the Big Horn Mountains. this is an Awesome road and a great ride that can take you back to billings MT or on to other points.
If you are in the area, dont miss the bighorns. Awesome ride.

I can't tell you how many times I've ridden it, but he won't have any problem. Just take it nice and easy, and enjoy the ride. Watch where you WANT to go, and that's where you'll go. That might sound crazy, but it's especially true there. Don't get caught up in the sights and not pay attention to the turns. There's a couple of decreasing radius turns that will sneak up on you if you're not paying attention. But it's a great ride. BEWARE: It can snow up there any time of the year. I've been over that in August, and caught in the snow. Have the right gear, and watch the weather. Spend a little time in Red Lodge, it's a fun little town. Enjoy.
have fun! We'll be doing this ride this summer too. Excited about it. Let us know if you find any good restaurants or places to stop on the way. Here's a link to our blog about ithttp://longridetosturgis.blogspot.com
