Quick detach kit
Did a search and am more confused then when i started which isn't hard to do. Does anyone sell a complete kit for a quick detach of the tour pak for a 05 Ultra classic? Or what exactly do i need to complete the job and since i'm here how about the same question for a stage 1 is this just an air cleaner slip on's and a tuner? And if so does this come in a kit also? Thanks
Talk to your local dealership about the detachable tour pak hardware kit. It comes complete. As far as the Stage 1, it does not come in a kit, you pick out an air breather you like, pipes you like, and get it tuned if you are trying to improve performance. If you're going for a better sound just buy some slip-ons and enjoy. The only time you need a tuner is if you change the air breather.
Not sure for a 2005 but for the 09+ they do and Harley actually sells the kit for the quick detach kit that includes everything you need, check out their website for details about your specific model and year. I did not use the kit however as I wanted a different turn signal look and license plate bracket so I bought the Kurykahn one. Then just bought street glide strut covers for my year since they are the same frame and the quick detach mounts as well as the tour pack quick detach rack. Then just coiled the wires under the seat. You can find used strut covers around the classified as well as ebay. I have seen others use road king turn signal/license plate brackets as well or even street glide turn signal/license plate bracket to achieve this. Kind of depends on what you want.
For the stage 1 kit you can buy one from cycle solutions listed under Complete Power Packs as that is what I did just last week myself. They had the best prices I could find as well along with free shipping. Or you can assemble one yourself via muffler, air cleaner and tuner, they helped out a lot in helping guide me to the sound and performance I wanted.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with my 05 ultra. I attempted to install the quick detach hardware with lighting harness and became confused and frustrated. I took it to my local dealership, and they looked at me like I was crazy. Then I went to a local bike shop, they dumped 3 hours worth of labor into it and then called me and told me it was not possible (and of course charged me for the labor). Luckily, soon after all this, my we bought my wife a street bob and she no longer rides with me. I am now looking to sale my detachable hardware kit and the lighting harness. All is never opened, new, in box and plastic. I also have all my receipts. Let me know if you are interested.
Unlike the '09 and newer Ultras, HD never offered a detachable tour pak kit for the older Ultras. If you want to know what's needed, have your dealer print out the installation instructions for the '09 and newer kit for the Ultras and you'll understand the issues involved.
Basically, you'll need to decide if you want the CB to work with the tour pak off the bike. If so, consider the J&M in-fairing CB antenna rather than trying to find a frame mounted CB antenna like HD offers for the '09 and newer models. If not, just disconnect the CB antenna when the tour pak is off the bike.
HD does offer an electrical extension for the tour pak electrical so that it's not necessary to make electrical disconnection inside the tour pak when removing the tour pak or reinstalling it.
For years, guys have been making tour paks detachable on their older Ultras w/o benefit of HD offering a $500 plus kit to do so.
Good luck with your project.

I added the kit to my 02. I raided parts from the newer (09 and up) kit to allow me to unplug the AM/FM and CB antenna. If you buy the tour pak detach kit for your year bike (will be listed as not fitting the Ultra but pay no attention), the wiring kit for the newer Ultra's and some brackets for the the antennas when the tour pak is off. The brackets for the antennas are for stock Street/Road Glides to mount the AM/FM antenna. The other bracket was from the kit that allowed the mounting of a CB onto a Street/Road Glide. Check my post history to see some pics I posted. I might be able to find part numbers if you need them. I tookthe Tour Pak off a few years ago and it is almost never on now. Love the bike without it!!

Thanks for the responses so far i appreciate it. So far all i have done is installed the latest version of the hidden antenna and don't really see myself ever using the CB. I would just like to remove the tour pak for around town and be able to easily put it back on when momma wants to go. @mimsboyce might be interested in your setup if it would be all that i need just trying to make this as simple as possible. Thanks
