Default Road King going down!

Well I did it, couldn't help it - or I should say couldn't stop it.

My bud and I were on a ride Saturday and we stopped by a local establishment for a bite and refreshments. It is on a dead end street so we rode past the place then U-turned using a local garage's driveway, there was about 1/2 block to go to the end of the street.

I was behind my bud, executing a slow left u-turn when a car started backing out right kind of next to where I was. I hit my brake and in miraculous slow motion, she tipped to the inside of my turn. As I'm struggling (and cursing more than just a bit) to hold it up, the SUV driver pulls away with a smirk - "I hope you are swearing at your bike and not me"....

GRRRRRR....

Amazingly, it just kind of perched on my floorboard bracket - I have the Harley Goodies extenders, didn't even scratch the crash bar. I was able to put my back to the bike and walk it back up.

So - this happens because I hit my front brake, right?

Yep, kind of a natural reaction though. Most of us probably would have done the same thing though.

Yup. Happens when you grab a whole snootful of front brake. Nice save though!

Glad to hear about the Harley Goodies extenders saving your bike, piece of mind as I just put these on my RKC

yeah I was just barely moving and coming around, looking down the street to see where my bud was parking. I must have seen the tail lights out of the corner of my eye and I think I just barely touched the front brake but it was enough!

When doing those sharp low speed turns it helps if you ride your back brake.

Glad to hear no damage.
That kind of thing is why I insist on wearing good boots with lugged non slip soles. If I have to put a foot down quickly, I want some grab to 'em. I can't figure out some people I see out riding 900 lb. bikes wearing flip flops, or some slick bottom shoes.
As you implied, once the big bikes get over the tipping point, as we say you gotta put some **** into it to keep from going down, especially riding 2 up.
I might have gotten off track, my .02
