I have a set of good used B lifters out of my 2006 Deluxe - would you use them or a set of new crane? Believe this is the correct part for the HD - Though I notice the oil hole is smaller in the pushrod socket http://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-10530-2/overview/

My bike was making cam noise, so I took it in for warranty work at my dealer, they found 2 lifters that were exactly like the ones you show in the pics, the tech that works on my bike showed me 3 other sets of lifters out of other bikes that looked the same, the thing in common between our 4 bikes, synthetic oil , and the same PN. I saw one set with 2400 miles on them, and they looked worse than the ones you show. I don't know what is up.
My dealer will not say that it is synthetic oil, he thinks the lifters are just junk now.

The slick looking dark area to the left appears to be the harden roller with no wear. The coating on the right is some kind of rust preventive treatment and soft lapping that has flaked off. It helps burnish in the ground finish on the cams. With the clearance in sleeve bearings on the cams and the bores for the lifters slight misalignment is to be expected. .0005 misalignment could slant that roller. Bet that coating is only a few .0001 thick. After a few years there would be none. You just caught Harley by tearing it down so soon. Just my opinion but for sure if that little bit of flaking hurt the inside of a Harley motor, they would not last a 1000 miles

This is a picture of one of the lifters in my 2012 Road Glide - they all have similar appearances. It looks like a sort of plating that is wearing off in a random pattern but I can't feel any edge to the shiny versus frosted area. I used a virgin x-acto knife blade and dragged it across the edge of the shiny to frosted and vice versus - I can tell you that the frosted area catches the knife blade point frequently but the shiny part that looks like plating does not. The cams look relatively normal as far as wear goes. Now for the question - WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE? I use Mobil one 20W50 VTwin oil.
I am putting in Andrews 57 cams and I want good lifter life.
For you photo bugs out there - taken with a Sony Nex5N using a Micro - Nikkor 55mm 1:3.5 at Asa 100 8 sec time exposure at f32 - great depth of field yes?
