Default Airflow question

Has anyone found the secret to creating a neutral air zone behind the fairing? I have a long beard, and at cruising speed, my whiskers are blowing up in my face. I always run my lowers, I have the air baffle on the bottom of the trees, and the side wings on the fairing don't seem to make a difference if they are on or off. I'm currently using a flat 9" shield, and thinking that maybe one of these new flared shields might be the answer. Anyone have any input on this?

I put he fork mounted deflectors on my FLHX, it helps. I painted them the same color as the bike so they blend in. I also have all the items you listed on my bike.

I just shaved my beard for the summer, but left a long mustache and it still gets in my face at times.

A nice riding scarf will keep the beard clean.
I wore a leather half face warmer like this when we only had Cromwell helmets

I'm interested in hearing what the forum says on this. Beard isn't long enough to create a problem, but since getting the Ultra, my pony tail comes around my neck and slaps me in the face all the time. Never had that problem with the Road King, so it has to be the fairing. Drives me crazy!! LOL

My wife always complains about the turbulence she gets from the fairing. I think it affects her more than me. All stock front on a SG.

The fairing, windshield, lowers, baffles, etc... all create a large negative pressure bubble thats right at the tank. Although these components will redirect the air, the neg bubble acts to suck any escaping air directly up the tank sides & it crawls up your chest.

Adding a recurved windshield along with the rest of what you have will help some but other than redesigning the aerodynamics of the entire front of the bike, nothing I know of will totally eliminate or completely redirect the airflow into a much larger air bubble.

The GoldWing, will all the plastic fairing parts & the large windshield is whats done to put the rider in a close to airless enviroment.

Even a convertible auto has issues with the same basic principle.

A riding buddy of mine has a very long beard & even with his ultra & an Aero windshield he has to put rubber bands or braids his beard to keep it from flying all over his face.

Just my 2 cents worth......

Nobody will do it, but a bigger windshield is all you can do.
....and I mean one big enough to look through not over. You ever see how big a windshield is on a Goldwing?

I test rode a Victory and they have this mastered. They use a Tall windshield with a vent slot in the middle to let the air up the inside of the windshield.
I could have used a Bic Lighter behind that thing.

The air comes up from under the windshield not over. I have the same question but it only bugs me at 70+ or so.

Same here, think lead fishing weights would help.

Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the input. May try some of the fork air deflectors before I give up....
