Default Ok. For someone who doesn't have a tac on bike..

Can anyone give me an idea of where 4000-4500 rpms is or what it sounds like? I'm trying to figure where my 'riding style' is.

What bike are you on? Model and cubic inches. 4000 rpms for me is about 40mph in 2nd gear. Could be off by a couple mphs. I rarely ever even look at my tach. I shift by feel. I just know the in town speed limit is 35 and i always seem to be speeding before i even hit third. Lol

It sounds like your bike saying "please shift"

Your owners manual should have guidance on gear changing points. Of course, if we knew what you are riding we could be more helpful!

Huh? How is someone suppose to tell you how it sounds? No clue on bike, motor, pipes, cams, or any info that can effect sound. Go down to the Harley dealer, test ride your bike and listen at 4k rpm

or google search for this document from Andrews cams:

28_RatiosMPG-pg28.pdf

this will give a road speed/ rpm/gear chart for big twins, just select your model bike.

My bad. It's a stock '12 roadking classic, 103. Im in the process of planning a cam change in the future. I'm pretty sure the se255 will be perfect, but the tw222 looks good also. I'm not really a heavy throttle man I like to let her purr and hear the rumble. Anyway any rough idea of what rpm I'm at right before I currently have to shift down from sixth back to fifth on the big hill riding 2 up going around...55?

Say Potato-Potato 4000 times in a minute You might want to change gear after that.
