I wouldn't use it for rain gear.
Though it may work, if you have to take it out, you won't have your vacuum to compress it back. Then you're either stuck wearing it, or trying to find a place to cram it. That's one of the items you want to make sure you have room for, after wearing.
Stay safe.

Don't like a baggie that requires me to carry a special tool.

They all leak in some air.

I've yet to beat basic baggies like ziplock, which come in all kinds of useful sizes. Sit on it to squish it empty and flat, zip it shut. I carry my butt with me everywhere, and its instantly available for sitting and squishing baggies down to size.

The wife and I just use two gallon freezer bags. We pack one day's clothes in a bag, sit on it to get all the air out, and seal it. It then just slides into the bag and at the end of the day, just pull out the day you need (wife labels the day!) then use same bag for the dirty clothes and it goes into the other saddle bag. They're cheap; they're at most stores; and you can dump them at the end of your trip w/o needing to store them as you would with those bags you buy and have to vacuum out.

I just broke down and bought a trailer. It makes my life sooooo much easier, if you know what i mean.... it also helps if you are riding in a windy area. Seems to help keep the bike settled.

I bought some crush sacks from Cabela's. They are for backpacking. You put the stuf in them and then there are several straps that compress the bag and the contents to make them much smaller. Work great, no shop vac needed.

I used the ones HD sells last summer and they actually did work and not just for fluffy stuff. All clothes have air in them. If you can remove the air you lessen the space they take up.

Thanks all, for the replies. Giving me lots to think of. Lucky1958, that sounds like an awesome trip. We are looking at that very trip in reverse next year. Phoenix to Seattle. This time we are headed to Malibu.

Does anyone have any pictures of their gear packed up on their bike and or any pics of street glides with luggage on a passenger or stealth luggage rack. If so, lets see em!

I use compresson sacks available at most any sporting goods stores. Come in small, medium and large. They're great for civies, socks and tees. Can get 10 days worth in a medium sized sack.
