Default Mirrors: Fairing vs stock

I posted about this a while back and got a lot of mixed feeling. I purchased a set of the fairing mount mirrors but never had the guts to drill my fairing on my 2011 ultra classic. One of the members (that was about my size) told me had bought the hd mirror extenders and it was able to get him up and around his arm.
I installed some last night and while riding today it was so nice. I would recommend to anyone try it before drilling. They cost 30 dollars and take about 5 min to try out.
They do seem to stick up a little to for looks but I would rather be able to see what is in my mirrors.
I will try to attach pics.

Must be the way we each sit in the saddle. When I had the 06 I wanted the fairing mirrors but was afraid of my arms affecting the view. When I had the fairing painted I went ahead and installed them and they worked perfect for me. No arms or hands on the grips in the way. So when I got the 13 it wasn't even a question. As long as you can see behind your bike it's all good.

The extensions are a must for me... Also they may be cheaper through EBAY or one of the aftermarket companies... It's been awhile but I think the last set I got were "no name" aftermarket and were around $20 or so delivered...

I've said it before and will say it again - when I had the mirrors in the fairing (stock FLHX), I would many times get rudely surprised by a car making a pass on me. In other words, at a (not very tall) 6'1", the mirrors were not in a natural position that provided for constant evaluation of circumstances behind me. The most analogous mirror situation I can think of is mirrors that come on jet skis/waverunners. They are cute and all, but because they are mounted with the primary focus of style versus function...no bueno... When I changed out bars and the inner fairing for a color matched version-I fixed this with "normal" mirrors mounted to the controls. Now, I dare someone to sneak up on me...

I've had the fairing mirrors on my bike since I bought it in 02 and have never had a problem. I love the look.
