muffler choices
I have found a set of v&h monster rounds with 200 mi on them for $300 and am wondering what people think of these slip ons. my current exhaust is stock with baffles removed. I like the loudness although my neighbors dont I was also thinking about rinehart 4 in slipons but would have to pay 500 for those.
I love my Monster Rounds. I ran them stock for a long time. They are slightly louder than the stock mufflers, but really growl when you hit the gas and also have a deeper sound to them. I just recently took the fiberglass wrap off the baffles and then reinstalled the baffles. WOW. Sound even deeper and slightly louder still.
One issue I had, my bike was basically stock. Stock head pipes (still have on the bike complete with the cat), and stock motor. I was getting quite a bit of decel pop when I first put on the MRs. So I finally bit the bullet and just had the dealership do their stage 1 download. It really helped, a LOT!!
Your bike may not need anything, depends on the individual bike. But if you get a lot of pop on decel, then at least get the download. It really woke my bike up, runs a little cooler, and even saved me some mpgs.
Others will tell you not to waste $150 on the dealer download as it "does nothing". They're wrong. It does help. It's not a tuner, and you won't gain much in the HP or torque department. But it also doesn't cost several hundred dollars. And, you don't have to worry about warranty issues.
