By mechanical nature they do loosen up at a few K miles. I have experienced this on 2 new ones, and it had nothing to do with the oil. They seam to settle in and pick up a few lbs. of giddy up when fully broken in.

To the OP, I wouldn't change to synthetic until the 1K mark. If there are components still seating the synthetic may inhibit this at the 500 mile mark. The MoCo didn't pull the # out of thin air. Some may seat at 600-750 but they feel confident by 1K everything will be seated that needs to be.

At 1000 miles I am on my 3rd oil and filter change.
90+% of break-in happens by 30 miles.
Therefore on a brand new engine or one of my complete overhauls I change oil and filter at 30 miles.
Then it is changed at 300 and then again at 1000. Then every 2500 miles.
It may be labeled by some as overkill, but my engines run quiet, strong and long.

I can. As all 'new' parts wear in, tiny fragments of metal, plastic, and even possibly machining debris are washed out. I always change oil on a new bike, car, truck, whatever at 500 and again at 1000 miles. Then I use the schedule that suits the type of oil I have chosen to use. It may be overkill, or it might add thousands of miles to an engine. No way to say for sure, so I'm going to err to the side of caution.
