Some of you guys are pretty harsh. Gather info on line or go to meets, gathering holes or try to stop people on the street for interviews (fat chance of stopping me). All time consuming and potentially expensive.

My problem is that I have a Road King and the only indication of poor generation at idle will be a sudden stoppage of the engine from no ignition, and that has never happened to me. The only other indication would be weak cranking or slow starts, both of which have numerous other causes besides poor charging at idle. My personal ride profile is: last stop prior to home is for gas, then 1 or 2 miles and shut down for the duration. Due to the short ride home, I always use a maintainer.

Just a shade tree observation is that since the 3 phase system, this is no longer a problem, but then, I'm not running a 300 watt sound system either.

I will pass on this. Set up a poll in a thread HERE, and I may answer. I agree that it has been a non issue since the 3 phase came along. Need more? Try Cycle Electrics for a larger alternator. Have an issue with a 3 phase? Look at the regulator. A HUGE amount of regulators were/are junk.
