Rear brake light switch failure on an 08
Road King. 5 years and 60,000 miles. No complaint, no problem, just a surprise. I had unknowingly been lazy. When mounting in the garage, I always held the front brake to steady things, and could see the brake and running light reflection on the wall and/or in a mirror. Turning the steering, I can see the headlight beam on another wall, so all lights checked...not so much. Never used the rear brake in the garage and usually disconnect the cruise with the front brake so I had unwittingly never confirmed the rear switch.
One thing I did on the new switch prior to installation was to fill the little chamber with brake fluid and kept the switch pointed straight up in a socket wrench to retain the fluid . Hopefully this will avoid the built in air bubble from the empty chamber in the switch. So far so good without any additional brake bleeding after installation.
