I am not aware of a detach kit other than what Harley offers but there may be others. It sounds like you just want to remove your TP. If so, undo bolts and unplug electrical to TP lights under the liner...done.

the H-D detach kit makes sense if you are taking it off and back on often...

IF you are gonna have it off most of the time and maybe put it on when you tour...the whole thing can be removed by nuts and bolts in about 30 minutes a time.

so depending on how you plan on using it, you might be able to save a few hundred bucks.

figure out what you wanna do with the antennas- roll up the rear lighting wiring and tuck under the seat

If you can get a copy of the install instructions, you may be able to piece together what you want out of the kit. Not everything in it is needed, but then you have to make some choices. You don't *need* the plate relocation kit. I didn't use it, but I spent a lot more doing it the way I did it than the kit. I didn't *need* the antenna relocation kit, but I also will be removing the passenger controls and CB antenna completely from the bike when I redo my audio system this winter.

Without the two kits mentioned, and by buying the hardware someplace else, you may be able to save some money but then you have to figure out what to do with your plate and antennas. Your best bet is to get the kit from a 20% off dealer like lshd1.com. No tax and free shipping on some orders. The order total for free shipping usually goes down during the winter months.

Yea I've seen some nice plate kits probably something closer to a road king, and the antenna kits won't be any help to me. I thought if you but the 4pt docking kit and a rack you could do it yourself am I wrong

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. Wouldn't a four point dock and the tour pack plate be enough. Do I really need the separate wiring harness? I don't use my antennaes anyway and I don't need the plate relocation either.

You don't need the wiring. You don't need the plate kit. All you need is the docking hardware, the tour pak mount and all the hardware. A local parts department could order it for you. Then you just need to figure out what you are going to do with your plate.

Those are the bare necessities of the kit, yes. Then you just relocate your plate and figure out what you want to do with all of the wiring.

If I remember correctly you also need new strut covers in order for the 4 point dock to work.
